The Advantages of Homemade Solar Energy System

Six dish Stirling Systems developed by Schlaic...Image via Wikipedia
The sun's rays radiate a lot more than 10,000 times the energy the earth requires yearly. Being so, this is a highly effective and reliable alternative to the non-renewable fuels men and women require for creating electrical energy. Nevertheless, this obvious truth has become ignored for ages, and now is the time when it is given another look. The reason is that individuals and government authorities were unable to consider the energy possibilities of the sun. Sun energy system, if given more interest, can hold back, if not completely wipe out, most of the environmental difficulties the earth has these days.
Creating energy through a home made solar energy system has a lot of advantages. And when we are to begin thinking about moving to solar power, we better begin talking about its advantages. Below are some of the advantages.
1. Sun costs nothing. Everyone has an simple access to it and do not needs to pay to have sunlight. Even though elements required for setting up a home made solar system still have to be bought, the primary method to obtain electrical power is widely free of cost.
2. Solar energy is clean energy. As opposed to non-renewable fuels, solar energy is not a source of carbon dioxide emission, which usually proves to be a severe environmental challenge as a result of its connection to pollution and global warming. Solar power, in essence, is environmentally friendly.
3. You may generate your private energy. This also signifies either of these two factors: non-reliance on foreign power sources, meaning absolutely no energy bills; or, if solar energy system is put to use as a back-up source, power utilization will be cut down by 80%. And consider this: when there is more created electrical energy, you are able to sell it to electric providers. Now you can change the roles.
4. Energy power system made at home is simple to set up and take care of. In case you are a typical man with barely specialized know-hows, it is possible to build a DIY solar energy system with minimum help. And if all things are correctly set up, your home made solar system will function equally efficiently as the professional solar energy generators.
5. Undoubtedly, one of the most useful advantage of having a do it yourself sun energy system is that you can generate your own free energy with a small fraction of the amount of the professional solar energy equipments. Lots of people hesitate moving to solar energy a result of related starting expense. Nevertheless that issue can be successfully tackled by building a home made solar system with easily available elements.

Taking a Different Look on Residential Solar Energy Systems

monokristalline SolarzelleImage via Wikipedia
With the depleting supply of fossil fuels and the potential risk of power elimination in the near future, we will be continuously dependent on renewable energy sources. Residential solar energy systems will continue to be in demand.
So as consumers, why should you be taking a different look at residential solar energy systems? Well the obvious and perhaps most appealing issue would be the issue of the depleting current energy sources.
In this age, people are so dependent on electronic devices in almost all aspect of life including food preparation and house temperature manipulation through various heating and cooling devices.
If the power source will continue to be unstable then literally the electronic era would consequently be in peril.
Aside from the unstable power supply, the current economic turmoil also adds weight on the issue. Currently aside from just paying what you are consuming, also including in ones bill are the additional taxes and the rental fees on various meters and equipment. In reality, you are actually paying more than just what you are really using.
So even if there is fluctuation in the amount of energy supplied to your house, the rental fees as well as the taxes do not necessary lessen in such instances of power interruption. The extra money spent on extra fees could have been used on something much more important or can be saved for future use. Investing on alternative power sources might help families deter away from such extra fees.
Alternative power sources are also a great avenue for one to help trim down the pressure humanity is placing on Mother Earth. This is attributed greatly to anti-pollution schemes of most renewable energy sources, which are also being currently labeled as green power sources.
With the onset of the global climate change whose existence is felt in various ways across the globe, the need to arrest the pollution or any other pressures on nature is of utmost concern. Using residential solar energy systems will not only benefit the consumers by having an assured power source but will also help lessen the ill effects on the planet.
I have put together a summary of the best do it yourself solar energy guides. Visit my site to learn how to save money on your home energy costs today.

Small Wind Energy Systems For the Home

Wind generatorImage by Tim Zim via Flickr
The idea of having a solar panel situated on your property that will provide your domestic energy supply has become common coin for most householders. However, to compliment this, growing numbers are also looking at small wind energy projects that will not only compliment this system, but is also adapted to different weather conditions required for the functionality of solar. You will need to have an acre of land in which tall 5 kilowatt wind generator can be positioned. Costs for this are normally around $29,000. Quite expensive and some time will pass before you get a ROI. But don't forget to check to see if there are tax credits or rebates available in your local area or state. The theory being that any extra energy generated is fed back to the grid and obversely the utility company can still provide your needs on calmer days - not forgetting that a solar panel will provide energy on warmer days.
Community Projects
If you don't happen to live on a small-holding or ranch then you can still perhaps benefit by forming your own local community project utilizing schools, churches and other organizations who are more likely to have the land requirements. The benefits of greener living, reducing energy bills and decentralizing local energy provision are its key elements. The World Summit on small wind energy is being held in Husum, Germany this March (2010) and many community based projects will be displayed that show just how to implement a cleaner, cost effective and dependable energy source system.
Wind Ownership. So who does the wind belong to?
Fossil fuel energy will prove to be more expensive than wind energy in the future. Just consider that fossil fuel production amounts to $120 billion each year and is a direct cause of much of the environmental damage that is widely recognised today. So how will the oil companies then remain dominant in the energy industry when they will be unable to control market forces and prices by manipulating the supply of the wind resource? Perhaps they will be forced to invest in wind energy! A study undertaken by Stanford University claimed that there is a sufficient wind resource that can provide the energy needs worldwide by a factor of seven.
Communities vs Corporate.
Wind industry experts claim that the wind industry grew five-fold during the 2000 and 2007 period alone. A global investment of $36 billion has already been made so far. There is a four-fold increase of predicted growth for the small wind energy industry over the next decade. We are then likely to see how large companies will be lobbying to influence government policy to initiate tax incentives and rebates for this type of energy. You should consider that if we leave our provision of energy to the corporate interests, then will we once more be subject to monopolistic profit making.
Considered as the most popular and favoured green energy provider, small wind energy is the energy of the future. There is an excellent article written on the subject of small wind energy that is worth taking a look at. It explains how a domestic home user can implement this in his own back yard.
I am dedicated to researching and providing information that will contribute to a better and cleaner lifestyle for all. If it be energy issues, diets or positive forward thinking I will promote it.

3 Easy Ways to Boost Your Home's Energy

If you want to improve how you feel, one way is to improve the energy in your home. Boosting the energy in your home has a direct impact on your own energy, not only helping you to feel better, but also improving certain things in your life. For example, it can help to bring you greater clarity, as well as helping you to attract more positive people and situations into your life.
Here are 3 simple ways that you can boost your home's energy and really get things moving:
Remove the Clutter
We all know that clutter is bad for us. We don't like it and we don't want to have It around, but sometimes it can become overwhelming that it's hard to find the energy, time or motivation to deal with it.
I'm not talking about simply organizing the things that you have and making things neat and tidy. What I'm talking about is releasing and letting go of things that you don't need. When you hang on to things that you don't need or use, these accumulated possessions will weigh you down, literally. When you clear away the things that no longer serve you, you are allowing the energy to flow through your home. This in turn helps to make room for new opportunities and things that you really want to come into your life.
If your home is packed full of things, you can't expect things to change for you or for new opportunities to come to you in life - you don't have room for them.
Cleaning
Keeping your home clean is just as important as de-cluttering. The more possessions you have, the more dust and dirt will accumulate, and the more difficult it will be to keep your house clean. Rather than thinking of cleaning just in terms of the physical aspects, think of it also in terms of what it does to your energy. You feel much better when your home is clean. You're not just cleaning out dust and dirt, when you clean you are also clearing energy that is stagnant. This also helps to create the space for new opportunities to come into your life.
Take your windows for example. Think of your windows as being the eyes of your home. If they are dirty, perhaps there is something that you don't want to see clearly in your life. Or perhaps you've been looking for answers and not finding them. Simply cleaning your windows can bring clarity.
Lighting
Your health, your moods and even your prosperity and what you attract into your life are impacted by the lighting in your home. If your home doesn't have much natural light coming in through the windows, you'll want to make sure you have plenty of lamps.
The type of lighting you have is also important. Fluorescent lighting can be particularly harsh, it's better to use full-spectrum bulbs that are closer to natural light than the fluorescent kind.
When a room is poorly lit or if has lighting only on one side people tend to feel uncomfortable in that room.
These are just 3 easy ways to boost your home's energy right away. If you apply even one of these you'll feel good. If you work on all three, you'll feel great.

Three Top Ways to Use Solar Energy

Solar panels are placed where the panels get abundant sunlight. The panels are made of special light sensitive cells called photovoltaic cells. These cells are made of silicon along with certain impurities. When photons from the sun strike the cells, some photons pass right through, some are reflected and the other photons are absorbed. The absorbed photons cause silicon molecules to lose electrons. The electrons then cross a barrier that's located inside the panels. This vacant space created by the truant electrons is filled up by ions coming in from the neighboring molecules. The process is speed up by the presence of the impurities. This continuous movement of electrons creates an electric current. Here are ten ways of utilizing solar energy.
1. Solar energy is increasingly being used to exterior lighting. These solar lights contain their own solar cells and do not need cables any more to bring them power. Examples are street lights garden light as well as park lights.
2. Solar Energy can also be used to charge and recharge lights as well as walk way lights and other appliances. These chargers work by converting solar energy into electric energy. All you need to do to get them working is to place them in the sun. Solar chargers are very popular with hikers and trekkers as they provide a way of charging batteries in remote places.
3. Using solar energy to save money on your electricity bill but to do so you have to implement a solar system within your electricity grid. Which will not only save money on your energy bill but also help to protect the environment on cutting down on burning fossil fuel.

How to Make Solar Power and Build a Wind Generator From Your Backyard

Wind generatorImage by Tim Zim via Flickr
Even when the high offices of leading nations push for renewable energy, they refer to the energy issues as looming threats and future problems. No wonder they are not getting the message across. The reality of the situation is that the energy crisis is already right at our doorsteps. Aren't we hit with continuously escalating power bills and breathing in toxic smoggy air already? Enough of just talking the walk, the world needs to take action - now!
The plus-points of renewable energy would be simply overwhelming if only people can just get out of their misplaced comfort zone. Morally and politically, we shouldn't be held ransom by our dependence on conventional fuel like oil and gas. It's everybody's environmental responsibility to help out the energy fiasco in whatever small ways we can. For instance, we can make solar power or build wind generator in our backyard or garage. There are benefits for the world and incentives for the individual too for good measure.
Not quite the scale of hydropower, solar energy is the foremost source of green power at a residential level. For that purpose, sunlight is all around in everlasting supply within a good portion of the country. It's a free fuel and solar power systems evidently require near-zero maintenance rendering the cost of generating domestic solar power minuscule once it's installed. Solar panels never used to be much to look at but solar shingles nowadays are actually quite pleasing. Also, capital investments in solar system qualify for tax incentives and other subsidies granted in several states.
Wind is another energy resource that is fully replenished in the normal course of nature. It will never be depleted no matter what unless of course solar heat and air which are the fundamental constituents of wind are totally wiped out from the surface of the earth somehow. Homemade wind power generator is also a viable and popular alternative to the grid. The hardware is relatively more substantial namely the wind tower so greater space is required. Some noise can be expected also.
The thing about solar or wind power systems is the investment cost. Although the math is straightforward enough to illustrate the long term 'dollar and sense' of these alternative power, cash-flow or liquidity are a common problem with a lot of people especially in these recessionary times. But then people can make solar power and build wind generator of their own by DIY. That will take the cost right down to only a fraction of their retail price instantly.
For those who are not entirely confident of ditching the grid altogether, they can still be savvy by switching to power their household primarily on domestic solar or wind energy, or both, while staying connected to the grid - as a backup. This way, they will have much better options to their household energy expense and may even sell any excess power back to the grid for a change if they can generate more than they consume. It is not uncommon. Wouldn't that be ideal too? It's possible!
Fed up with ridiculous power bills or just want to go green? Try to Make Solar Power or Build Wind Generator of your own.

How Does Solar Energy Work? - Info on Solar Energy

Moody sun burst hovering over a trough at Kram...Image via Wikipedia
In this article I will briefly explain all the main aspect of solar power, including: The Solar Thermal Method, The Photovoltaic Process, Direct & Indirect Energy, Active & Passive Systems, and lastly, Focus Types.
The Solar Thermal Method
With this method, solar panels collect heat from the sun and use this directly to generate heat. This is commonly used for things like swimming pools or heating buildings. The typical way this works is by having tubing circulating water which gets warmed up by the sun rays on the solar panels.
The Photovoltaic Process
This process involves creating electricity from the sun's power. Solar cells contain silicon-based material to absorb the light from the sun (as opposed to absorbing the warmth, which the solar thermal method does). The solar energy excites the solar cell's electrons, producing electricity.
Direct & Indirect Energy
  • Direct Energy - this involves using only one step to generate the useable energy. For example, sunlight strikes a solar cell and electricity is generated immediately.
  • Indirect Energy - this involves multiple steps to turn the sunlight into useable energy. A very extreme example of this is photosynthesis in plants, which over billions of years eventually turns into coal which we can use to fuel coal power generators.
Active & Passive Systems
  • Passive - this uses no active process to use the power of the sun. For example, sunlight through the glass of a greenhouse to keep it warm for plants to grow.
  • Active - this involves using other energy to make use of the sun's energy. For example, the use of electric pumps when using solar energy to heat water.
Focus Types
  • Point Focus - using a dish to concentrate the sunlight into one point, where there is a dense cluster of solar cells.
  • Line Focus - similar to point focus, but using a line of mirrors or a trough shaped dish to focus the light.
  • Non-focus - the use of diffuse sunlight. For example, solar thermal panels.
Have you thought about using solar panels to generate your own electricity? Most people pay far too much for their electricity, and the truth is, generating your own power is much easier than most people realize. Don't be one of the many people who pay too much on their energy bills. Visit CheapElectricityBill.info to find out how you can pay less for your electricity.
